TONY MAKSYMYK July 25, 1925 - September 15, 2007 With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and papa. He died peacefully with his family by his side. Tony was predeceased by his father John in 1954; mother Annie in 1969; brother Walter in 1998 and brother-in-law Bill in 1995. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Isabel; son Gary and his daughter Jenna; son Dale (Kym) and their children, Kaley, Jordan, Brittany and Ryan and daughter Sandra Olynyk (Jim) and their children, Bradley and Alyssa; his brother Mike; sister Mary Quick and sister-in-law Jean and their families. Tony loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He was always very supportive of his children's involvement in sports, be it baseball, hockey, volleyball or basketball. He loved his golf and curling after his retirement in June 1985. He cherished and spoke often of his golf trip to Orlando with his sons on his 75th birthday. He was in education for 40 years. Taught school at Bjarmi (Arborg), Striy (Komarno), Netley and Mapleton. For the last 27 years of his career, he was principal at Lockport, Ruth Hooker, Devonshire and Robert Smith schools. After his retirement from teaching, he was elected as a trustee for two terms in the Lord Selkirk School Division. He enjoyed educational conferences in Orlando, New Orleans, San Francisco and Montreal. In his retirement years, together with Isabel, they enjoyed winter vacations in Florida, Arizona, Texas, Hawaii and Palm Springs. They also enjoyed to visit family in Kitchener and Vancouver and traveled Canada from coast to coast. He was a Kiwanis member for some 20 years. President for two years and Treasurer for many more. He also served on the Board of Directors for Kiwanis On the Red phases I and II . While with Kiwanis, he chaired many projects to raise funds for the Selkirk Arena, Library along with many others. He was always generous of his time doing endless hours of volunteer work, driving cancer patients and dialysis patients to hospitals and delivering meals on wheels. During his lifetime he had a great deal of respect for his students, colleagues, friends and family and earned the same in return. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and instilled Christian values to his children and friends. The family would like to sincerely thank the extraordinary staff in the surgical ICU at the St. Boniface Hospital for their remarkable kindness and support and for the care that was provided to Tony by the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Good Shepherd Church Memorial Fund, Box 448, Selkirk, MB R1A 2B3 Cremation has taken place at his request. A celebration of his life will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 6088 PTH 9A, Selkirk on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Ron Vert and Dave Saude officiating.
