Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY WALTER KLAUSE It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad and grandfather after a brief illness on September 14, 2007 at the Grace Hospital. Henry was predeceased by his wife Sussana in 1992. He will be deeply missed by his children, Harold (Heather Power), Lenore (John) Hodge and Warren (Berta) and his two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Hodge. He will also be missed by his brother Leonard (Olga) and their children, James and Ernest, his sister Edna (Peter) Huesmann of New Jersey and their children, Peter and Karen and his mother-in-law Ksenia Schlamb. In the United States, he will be fondly remembered by his DeMeyere sisters and brothers: Stanley (Lois) from MN, Ida Nelson from MN, Frieda (John) Quicker from FL, Russell (Clarice) from ND, Arthur (Bonnie) from MN, Violet (Norris) Anderson from MN, Margaret (Larry) Ulrich from MN, Roselind (Clyde) Rosten from FL, Caroline (Arden) Bohach from MN and Susan (Ron) Carlson from AK and their families. Henry will also be missed by many cousins, close friends and neighbours. Henry was born in St. Vital on January 28, 1926. He grew up with his father and brother and had a hard but adventurous childhood. After leaving school, he worked for a number of years as a glazier and then worked with the federal government as an offset press operator until his retirement. Henry and Sussana married in 1952 and they had a strong, loving marriage for 40 years. Henry was a very kind, down-to-earth, humble person. He was very personable and made friends easily but his family was always the focus of his life. He loved his children and grandsons and was always involved in whatever they were doing, right from science projects, team sports to house projects. His favourite place was with family at the cottage at Whytewold Beach. Our enduring memories will be of dad lying on an inner tube in the water, backyard barbeques and him sitting under the oak tree carving his signature birds. If not at the beach, he was at home beside the woodstove, watching two TVs, carving and eating popcorn. Henry was always good with his hands he could fix anything. But, like his dad, he had a special affinity for wood and was an excellent carpenter. After he retired, he began making wooden toys and carving birds. Everyone who knew dad has a jeep, truck, model-T, reindeer or bird to remember him by. When dad was in his early sixties, through the effort of his sister Edna, he finally met her and was united with the DeMeyere part of his family. In the ensuing years he went to many fairs, weddings, and reunions in the United States. To finally be part of this large, loving family brought dad so much happiness and peace. The family thanks the staff on 5N at the Grace Hospital for their care, devotion and compassion for dad during his stay. We also thank the many friends and neighbours for your thoughts, prayers and support through this difficult summer. A private family service will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry's memory, may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
