Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNEIL GALLAGHER It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of (Frederick) Neil Gallagher, born September 17, 1951. Neil was taken from us unexpectedly on September 14, 2007 at the age of 55 years. Neil is survived by his beloved wife Terri of 35 years, son Scott and his wife Alex, daughter Shelley, father Glen, brothers Larry (Cairns, Australia) and Ken (Bonnyville, Alberta). He was predeceased by his mother Doris in May 2007. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Neil spent most of his childhood in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Growing up, he was a gifted athlete and enjoyed playing football, baseball and curling. After moving to Winnipeg in 1970, Neil met and married his wife and best friend, Terri. Together they created a loving home and raised two children. His family was the focal point of his life and he showed unwavering love and dedication to them. He started his career in banking and some years later went on his own and built up a successful business as a financial advisor, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He considered many of his clients dear friends and frequently remarked how lucky he was to be surrounded by such good people. It wasn't really a job for him but rather an opportunity to spend time with his friends. Aside from his family and his business, Neil loved to indulge in his passions for curling and golf. He also spent the past 15 years as a committed member of the Winnipeg-Assiniboine Rotary Club. Within Rotary, he was very involved in the Youth Exchange Program, serving for many years on the District 5550 Exchange Student Board. Over the years, he and Terri welcomed countless exchange students into their home, whether for hours or months at a time. Through his involvement in this program, he enriched the lives of many people across the globe. The impact he made was broad and extraordinary. He will be lovingly remembered as a humble and sincere man of integrity. The family would like to thank all of Neil's friends and colleagues for the support received. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with a reception to follow. A fund in his memory has been established to assist disadvantaged youth in participating in the Rotary Exchange Program. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to this fund, care of: Rotary Youth Exchange, Box 129, Falcon Lake, Manitoba, R0E 0N0. I am almost embarrassed to say that until this morning I didn't even know Neil's name. I work at 280 Kenaston Blvd and would see Neil some mornings as we both waited for and rode the elevator up to our offices. Over the years we would have these brief converations that lasted no more than a minute or so, we would wave and say hi on other occassions. He impressed me as a warm, friendly and open man who always had a smile and a kind word to say. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Jim Fogg (Acquaintance) on: Sep 19, 2007
