ALICE ROBERTSON (HOPKO) (nee DROHOMERESKI) With family by her side, Alice Robertson, aged 94 years, passed away peacefully at the Betel Personal Care Home in Gimli, on September 15, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband John Robertson (1983); by her parents, The Reverend Dymtro Drohomereski (1967) and Annie Drohomereski (1976); brothers, Mike, Bill, Willy, Thedosie, Ted; granddaughter Charlene Cherniak; sons-in-law, Joe Klym and Edward Cherniak. Alice will be lovingly remembered by her children, Danelda Cherniak, Marnie Klym, Edward Hopko (Judy), Richard Hopko (Charlotte), Leslie Hopko (Alice); 15 grand-children, 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Alice was born in Pleasant Home, Manitoba, on August 12, 1913. She grew up and lived on a farm until her marriage to William Hopko in 1929. Alice worked hard raising her five children as well as taking a very active role on the family farm. She worked in Winnipeg as a nanny/housekeeper and as a dietary aid at the Grace Hospital for 11 years. Mom always took pride in her work and provided care for her parents when they encountered difficulties caring for themselves. She was the ultimate caregiver, never forgetting a birthday or an anniversary and took an active interest in her family and friends. Mom had a deep sense of dignity and pride; her family teasingly referred to her as the Queen Mother. Mom enjoyed gardening, travelling, singing, going to bingo and playing cards. Family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Betel Personal Care Home, Gimli, for the care they had given. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Pleasant Home. Pallbearers will be Darrell Klym, Donnie Klym, Kevin Klym, Lyle Cherniak, Eugene Cherniak, Dayna Hopko. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations in Alice's memory may be made to Betel Home Foundation, Gimli, or to St. Stephen's Church, Pleasant Home, in care of Jim Persoage, Teulon, MB R0C 3B0. A thing of beauty is a joy forever Its loveliness increases, it will never Pass into nothingness, but still will keep A bower quiet for us and a sleep Full of Sweet dreams, health and quiet breathing Vichnaya Pam'yat MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
