HAROLD (CHUCK) LINDSAY At the age of 87, at home where he wanted to be, Chuck passed away on September 15, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Mona for more than 60 years, the loving father of Lynda (Brian) and proud papa of David, Matthew and Lindsay. He is also survived by a large extended family, all of whom he cherished. A native of Hamiota, Manitoba, Chuck was a Hamiota boy all his life and never lost touch with his many friends in the Hamiota and Reston areas. A long-term employee of the Manitoba Department of Highways, he met and maintained friendships with people in every town across the province. His true appreciation for good times, good stories and good friends led to enduring friendships with people from coast to coast. A great athlete in his youth and a sports fan all his life, Chuck played hockey, boxed and was, by all accounts, a terrific softball and baseball pitcher. Stationed in Shediac, NB where he met Mona during his service in the Air Force in the Second World War, he was voted Best Pitcher ever to play in the Maritimes . Prior to that he pitched Hamiota teams to successive victories, never losing a game in over four years. Following the war, he and Mona lived briefly in Belleview, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg where they spent most of their married life. They retired to Victoria in 1989 where they enjoyed making a whole new circle of friends. In his later years, Chuck faced many serious health issues, including loss of vision, never complaining and always, as he put it, giving it his best shot . His courage and grace in facing each challenge will remain an inspiration. Always the first to do a favour or lend a helping hand, he never lost his interest in people, his sense of humour or his ability to tell a great story. He will live in our hearts. A service will be held in the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota, Manitoba on Saturday, September 22, at 4:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the many friends who offered so much support during Chuck's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Hamiota and District Sports Complex Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 100, Hamiota, Manitoba R0M in 0T0. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota, MB in care of arrangements. (866) 620-2744
