ROBERT JAMES MACKINNON (MACK) PHILLIPS July 10, 1917 - September 17, 2007 Peacefully, after a brief illness, Robert James Mackinnon Mack Phillips passed away on September 17, 2007. Mack was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Jackie, in 1989, son Grant in 1993, sister, Doris Dunlop, and brothers, Doug, Alan and Ken. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Violet Farrow-Phillips, daughter Dolores Phillips and grandchildren, Reanne, Kelsey and Kaley Wusaty-Phillips. Mack was born in 1917 and served overseas in the Second World War in Italy, Sicily, France and Belgium as a Tank driver with the Fort Garry Horse and the Calgary Tanks. After returning from the war he met Jackie and they married on June 15, 1951. They had two children, Grant in 1953 and Dolores in 1957. Dad received his mechanics training during the war and continued his career as an auto mechanic working for himself and others, retiring from Matthon Motors at age 65. Dad was a kind and patient soul with a quick wit that we will all miss. In September 2005 Dad married his longtime friend and companion, Vi. Vi was a devoted wife and caregiver and she will miss him dearly. Dad was an avid reader, dog lover, motorcyclist, and he enjoyed many good times camping with Mom at Caddy Lake. Thanks so much to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge, Tower 7 who provided such excellent care. Special thanks to Betty, Gail, Andrea, Eva and Carla for treating Dad with such dignity and respect. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Winnipeg Humane Society or Greyhound Rescue, Hi Speed Hounds, Inc., 125 Disraeli St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3J4.
