MARGARET ISABEL CHESTER (nee SHUMWAY) Margaret Chester passed away on September 17, 2007 at 101 years of age. She was born in Winnipeg on July 21, 1906 to Siri and Harris Shumway. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank; her dearly loved son Ronald and her sister Evelyn Audrain. She is survived by her sister Norma McManus of South Bend, Indiana and Dorothy Jordan of Winnipeg. Also by her daughter-in-law, Iris Chester, her grandsons, Frank Chester (Theresa), Christopher and Gordon (Lois) Chester and by her granddaughter Lori Patrick (David) and her well loved great-grandsons, Scott and Graeme Patrick, also by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished. Marg was a 1928 graduate of the Winnipeg General Hospital and in 1930 she and Frank were married. She was a very caring person, willing to help anyone in need of a helping hand, and she had a wealth of friends. Marg was bright, cheerful and witty and we all loved her dearly. She was a member of the Anglican Church and a lifetime member of St. Johns Guild of the Children's Hospital. Our memories of Marg will always be treasures of our hearts, and to live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. If friends so desire contributions to her memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My name is Lyall Krahn and I currently live at 219 Kingston Row in Winnipeg where Frank and Margaret lived circa 1940s. In September of 2023, there was a knock at my door. When I opened it, a 90 year old British man by the name of Chris Langdon (who was with his daughter on a visit to Canada) said that he had lived in the house from 1940 to 1944. He and his sister Mavis had been taken in by Frank and Margaret as a "British evacuees" during the war. As his story seemed believable, I welcomed him in and showed him around the house and we even went up to his old bedroom (a very emotional experience for both of us) where he said that he shared a room with Frank and Margaret's son Ronald, who, at the time, was 15 years old. He said that one morning he woke up with a stomach ache that turned out to be appendicitis and that Margaret had rushed him to the children's hospital. Although I never knew Margaret, from Chris's story, she seemed like an extremely caring and loving person. I just wanted to share this story. - Posted by: Lyall Krahn (Current homeowner of Frank and Margaret's old house at 219 Kingston Row) on: Jun 27, 2024
