MARGARET LOIS LYNDON Margaret Lois Lyndon (Cockey) died peacefully at the Victoria Hospital on September 18, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Frank Lyndon and her parents, Annie (Bruce) and J. E. Lewis Cockey. She is survived by her son Robin Bruce Lyndon (Alayne) of Vancouver, daughter Heather-Anne Hartry (Reid) and grandson Tristan Hartry. Margaret was born on April 27, 1922 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, was raised in London, England and spent many happy holidays in Inverness, Scotland. During the war years, Margaret worked at the Bank of England in the heart of London and survived the blitz. It was during the war that she met and married a handsome young member of the RCAF who was serving overseas. At the end of the war, Margaret journeyed to Canada to settle in Winnipeg with Ron and their young son Robin. Despite the initial culture shock of arriving in what seemed a small community after living in the metropolis of London. Though she never became accustomed to the weather, she became actively involved in the community belonging to the IODE and the British Wives Club. She spent many fun times with Nancy, Cath, Mary, Vi and the other ladies from the Club as they raised money for charity and entertained seniors with hilarious amateur musical reviews. Margaret worked for number of years as a medical receptionist before pursuing her true dream and entering School of Nursing at St. Boniface Hospital in 1977. She worked at St. Boniface for many years in the nursery and obstetrics area and was known for her professionalism and dedication to patient care. She frequently ran into past patients, who remembered the kind care she provided to them during their stay in hospital. Margaret's other love was the theatre. She was involved in many amateur and professional productions including Manitoba Theatre Centre, Rainbow Stage, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, Warehouse Theatre, Shoestring Players, Shakespeare in the Park and a number of locally shot commercials and films. At the time of her death she was looking forward to a role in a 2008 Fringe production, directed by her good friend Daphne Korol. Margaret also loved music and was a member of the St. John's Cathedral choir, the St. James Senior Choir and a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. There was rarely a day that this vibrant lady wasn't out doing something. This past spring she spent a wonderful three weeks in England visiting with family and friends and in July took a trip to Vancouver Island with her daughter. Thank you to the physicians and staff of the Victoria General Hospital, The Rev. Bob Osborne, the Rev. Ann Goodwin and the many friends who came to visit Margaret or sent greetings during her recent illness. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to St. John's Cathedral organ fund, the Manitoba Theatre Centre Scholarship fund or to a charity of your choice. Funeral service is to be held on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave. Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.
