Saturday, September 29, 2007 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 2 Leacock Ave., Winnipeg Phone 832-8828 for directions On Thursday, August 2, 2007, Philip Oliver Raymond Einarson of Nelson, British Columbia, passed away at the age of 72 years. Phil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1935 to Oliver Gudjon and Edna Valgurder Einarson (nee Anderson), a brother to John and Malcolm. Phil's childhood and youth were spent in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and Creighton, Saskatchewan. After graduation from Hapnot Collegiate, Phil attended the University of Manitoba. As a young adult he enjoyed the camaraderie of working with the family business, H E Construction. In 1957 Phil met Kathleen Sheena Vanderwal and they married in 1958. Together, Phil and Kay raised four children, Lori, Kerry, Ward and Kevin. Their children were blessed with huge family Christmases, summer camping and fishing trips, visits to relatives across the continent and, above all, a deep sense of family to carry into their own lives. During their years in Flin Flon, Phil worked for Monarch Life Assurance and then at Sears, where he rose to the position of manager. During this period Phil took great pleasure in having his private pilot's license and had a lifelong interest in aviation. Phil also worked with the Flin Flon Lions club for many years and was a director for the Flin Flon Credit Union. In 1986, Phil and Kay moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Phil again became manager of the Sears store until his retirement. Not one to be idle, Phil spent another 11 years as the Walmart greeter, enjoying keeping in touch with people. When diagnosed with cancer, Phil approached the end of life as he did all its other stages: with a steadfast concern for the well-being of his family, making contacts and arrangements for them. Phil is sadly missed by his devoted wife Kay, his loving mother Edna, his children Laura Rachel (Norbert Hansch), Kerry Scott (Gabriele), Ward Randall (Cheryl) and Kevin Lee (Lillian), his six grandchildren, his constant source of pride, Meagan, Curtis Philip, Kathleen (Kate), John, Sara and Samantha. Phil was predeceased by his father Oliver and his brothers John and Malcolm. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, 3 View St., Nelson, BC V1L 2V1.
