META FRANZISKA GOBERT Peacefully, on September 16, 2007, Meta Gobert, at the age of 95, passed away at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre. Meta was predeceased by her beloved husband Jules in 1976; her parents Gustave and Mathilde Kallweit; son Ernest; grandson Daniel; her five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her four children, Maurice (Doris), Arthur (Lorraine), Roger (Lynne), Doreen (Warren) Johnson. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Lorrie Loeppky, Allan, Jeffrey, Dwane, Kathryn Johnson, and Cameron; as well as four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Katherine, Cole and Chase. Meta was born on February 22, 1912, and spent her childhood on a farm in Woodridge, MB. She married Jules in 1935 and together they operated J.J. Gobert's Dairy in St. Boniface for many years. Many weekends were spent entertaining family and friends and playing cards. Meta loved to beat the men in their regular poker games. She was also an avid bingo player at the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Centre. She always seemed to have a reserved seat. Meta would win frequently but always complained about needing one more number. The family deeply appreciates the concern and care of the wonderful staff at Lions Manor in her later years. Special thanks to Miriam and Shelley. Many thanks also to Dr. Salem for his many years of compassionate care. Interment has taken place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens with a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Meta's memory to the Cerebral Palsy Association, 105-500 Portage Ave., Winnipeg MB R3B 2E3, or a charity of choice.
