SIDNEY HILARY MICHALUK 1934 - 2007 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother and friend at the Riverview Health Care Centre on September 15, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. with his younger son by his side. Sid will be sadly mourned by the love of his life, Nettie and his two sons, David and Boris of Winnipeg, Manitoba and his mother-in-law Ellen Hordelski of Dauphin, Manitoba. Sid was predeceased by his father in 1964, his mother in 1982, his brother in 2006 and his father-in-law in 1975. Sid is survived by three siblings, Sylvester (Olga) of Regina, Saskatchewan, Mari Ann and friend Allen of Onanole, Manitoba, Mercel (Donna) of Ethelbert, Manitoba and sister-in-law Adeline the late (Steve) of Dauphin, Manitoba, also cousin Verle Kaweski (Frank) of Vancouver. Sidney was born January 26, 1934 in farming district of Ethelbert, Manitoba to Nick and Tina (Stotski) Michaluk. He attended Elementary School at Doroshenko School in Mink Creek District and High School in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. In 1957 he moved to Winnipeg and in 1959 he married his best friend, Nettie Hordelski. He was employed by the City of Winnipeg for 37 years. He retired in April of 1994 at the age of 60. Sid enjoyed a slow relaxed pace of life and loved the outdoors. His passions were hunting moose, deer, geese, ducks and chickens as well as fishing and fly fishing. Sid also picked berries, mushrooms and grew a large garden. When he came to Winnipeg, he pitched ball for The Civic fastball team for six years, until the love of gardening took over. He learned to swim at the same time the boys took swimming lessons. He played badminton for 31 years until his health failed at the age of 71. He did taxidermy in his younger years. There didn't seem to be anything he couldn't do, fix or build. He built his garage, rec room, fence, ice shack and fences for neighbours and friends. He enjoyed interacting with his neighbours. Sid was a gentleman and a soft spoken man. In keeping with Sid's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private gathering to celebrate his life. Grief is the price we pay for loving. No flowers please. Donations may be made Riverview Health Centre.
