JULIA KARPYNKA (ZUK)
Born: May 18, 1909
Date of Passing: Sep 16, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJULIA KARPYNKA (nee ZUK) May 18, 1909 September 16, 2007 It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Sunday, September 16, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband Theophil on February 15, 1969. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lillian (Ernest) Kushniaryk, Jeanette (Keith) Dryburgh; grandchildren, Scott (Wendy) Dryburgh, Lisa Kushniaryk Hansen (Ken Hansen) and Patrick (Leslie) Dryburgh; great-grandchildren, Leah, Hailey, Alec and Rory Dryburgh; her nephew Myron Zuk and niece Natalie (Chester) Biesadecki. Our mother was born in Western Ukraine in the village of Romanivka, district of Terebowlia to parents Michael and Anna Zuk. She was the second youngest of seven children, all of whom have predeceased her. In May 1927, Julia left her family and homeland to join her older brother and sister Nick and Mary in Winnipeg. They welcomed and supported her in all ways. On October 12, 1929, after a short courtship our mother and father were married. Through their marriage, our mother gained not only a husband but became a member of his large family. Our mother worked hard all her life at various employments. When she and our father established Karpen Upholstering Co., on the corner of Inkster and Main, they worked side-by-side daily until retiring in 1968. Our mother excelled in many things, sewing, gardening and baking. She even joined the March for Peace on several occasions. She loved music and sang in various Ukrainian Choirs. After our father's death, her whole life became her children, grandchildren and eventually great-grand-children. She was always very generous with her time and never forgot any of us on birthdays and special occasions. Four years ago, when she couldn't manage on her own because of failing health, our mother regretfully left her home of 65 years and went to live at the Sharon Home. Through the efforts of the staff, she eventually joined daily activities, becoming an avid Bingo fan. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who was part of our mother's life at the Sharon Home. We will never forget you. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private family interment of her ashes at a later date. Friends and family are invited to join us at a reception honoring our mother to be held in the Atrium at Sharon Home, 146 Magnus Avenue on Wednesday, September 26 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made in Julia's memory to a charity of your choice. Although gone from our lives, our Mother and Baba will remain forever within our hearts.
