TERRENCE TERRY PATRICK HOGAN

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTERRENCE TERRY PATRICK HOGAN Terry passed peacefully at the Grace General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends, on September 19, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Surviving are his wife Jennie Lee Hogan; brother, Kevin and Lucy Hogan; daughter Maureen Hogan; son, Timothy and Laurel Hogan; son, Marc and Claire Thomas; son, Sean Hogan and Kati Kroeger; daughter, Amanda Thomas and William Jones; seven grand-children: Keenan Holcombe, Aidan Hogan, Sarah Brereton, Ian Thomas, Olivia Hogan, Finnian Hogan, Nora Kroeger; nephews Paul Hogan and John Hogan; the Badgley family; the Williams family; and the Gonner family. Terry was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth Anne Hogan. He was born May 10, 1937 in Dubuque, Iowa where he lived until finishing his B.A. at Loras College. He continued his studies at the Catholic University of America, in Washington DC, where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology. After receiving his doctorate he worked with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, taught at Bradley University in Peoria, IL and provided services at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, WI. In 1969 he moved with his family to Manitoba to be a Professor of Psychology at the University of Manitoba. During thirty-five years with the University of Manitoba he held numerous positions including Associate Head of Psychology, Associate Dean of Arts, Dean of Graduate Studies, Associate Vice President (Academic) and Vice President (Research and External Relations). He ended his academic career as Executive Associate Dean of the Asper School of Business and as its Director of International Student Exchanges. He was a Senior Scholar at the time of his death. He was a member of many organizations throughout his career and served as President of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Psychological Association of Manitoba, and the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education. The Canadian Psychological Association named him as the 2001 Member of the Year. Additionally he sat on the boards of several national, international, and local organizations. He was particularly proud of his association with the University College Sedaya International in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and served on its Board of Governors for many years. In recognition of his service and contribution he was granted an Honorary Doctorate from U.C.S.I. He was thrilled to receive this honour at a special ceremony in Kuala Lumpur in July 2006. In addition to his academic pursuits, Terry had many other interests. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed all things Irish. He was blessed with the gift of the gab and loved to tell stories the dinner table at family gatherings was a favourite place for sharing his experiences. He enjoyed traveling and visited many countries around the world. He loved food, and his travels offered him opportunities to experience many exotic cuisines. Music was another significant part of Terry's life. He had an eclectic taste in music and spent his last days listening to his favourite jazz and classical CD's. All of these interests however, were surpassed by his love for his family. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the many friends and extended family who supported Terry throughout his lengthy illness. The family is grateful to the medical care he received from his doctors at the Manitoba Clinic and to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Boniface General Hospital during his hospitalizations there. The family particularly thanks the many doctors, nurses, health care aides, and housekeeping staff of the 3 North ward of the Grace General Hospital. These dedicated individuals provided exceptional care, respect, and support to Terry and our family during his extended stay on the ward. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Terry passed away due to complications from a liver disease NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis). We played baseball & hung out together. Remember his mother had a child when Terry was in 7th or 8th grade at which time that was considered late in life. Last time seeing him was 1955 Loras Academy Class re=union.
