Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS HELENA JOHNSON 1912 2007 On Thursday, September, 20, 2007, Gladys passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home. Gladys was born in Komarno, Manitoba on May 5, 1912. As years went on and at the age of 14 she was left to look after her siblings when her mother passed away. She moved to Winnipeg to work and then on to Red Lake, Ontario where she met her husband John. After a short marriage of eight years and the birth of their daughter Gail, she became a widow at the age of 33 when her husband was killed in a mine accident. Life was not easy for her but with determination she came to Winnipeg and bought a guest house on Langside Street where many lives came and went but the friendships never ended. She worked at Polo Park at Sears, Ricki's, Flirt Shop and Fairweathers where she worked until age 70. She met a wonderful man named Ivor who loved her daughter and grandchildren. They loved to dance and took trips to the East and the West Coasts. Later she would go on trips to Victoria with her special friends Art and Kay. She also loved going to Thunder Bay to visit another special friend Dona. When the grandchildren and great-grand-children came, her family enlarged and she looked forward to being with them. Her son-in-law Don and her shared the same birthday and she spent many evenings out dancing with us and our friends. She danced until the age of 80. She was a beautiful dancer. Gladys was a very elegant and caring person. She was a good mother and best friend who loved life and taught the good things in life. She was predeceased by her mother and dad and her four brothers and four sisters. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Gail (Don) Stotski, grandchildren, Greg (Ellen) Friesen, Laura Lee (Harold) Lecuyer, great- grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Kami Friesen and Rene, Tyler and Tara Lecuyer and a very close friend Ann Ptachyk. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge for looking after mom for 12 years. A memorial service will be held in the spring and will be announced at a later date. neil bardal inc. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
