WILLIAM TENNANT SUTHERLAND William Tennant Sutherland, born May 25, 1917 in Winnipeg, son of Alex and Jesse, passed away in his sleep in his bed at the age of 90 years, at Qualicum Beach, BC on September 9, 2007. Bill retired from the CNR in Winnipeg in 1977 and moved to Miracle Beach, BC with his wife Lillian Marge Marguerite (nee Martin) who passed May 27, 1982. His son Daniel Brian, his daughter Barbara Jessica Healey (Robert), his brothers, Donald and George and his stepsister Betty (Jenner) predeceased Bill. He is survived by three sons, Donald Kenneth (Gay), David William and Duncan Bruce, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Bill enlisted in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders Of Canada in 1939 and was discharged in 1945. He was captured at Dieppe, France and was interred in various P.O.W. camps in Germany for most of the Second World War. Dad was an avid sportsman and loved to train his Labrador retrievers for field trials and bird hunting. He stated that he hoped the 1st Nations people had it right re The Happy Hunting Grounds as he looked forward to once again having young legs with his bird dog by his side and Marge, Barbara and Danny to come home to.
