Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON JAMES DEWAR Gordon passed away on September 21, 2007 at Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria, BC. Gordon was the first child of Mary Elizabeth Dewar (nee Connolly) and Arthur Gordon Dewar, born January 31, 1920. Gordon grew up in Selkirk, Manitoba as a top-notch student but, like many young men in his generation, he chose to enlist with the Canadian Armed Forces. He served his country from July 1941 to March 1946, both in the Army and the RCAF. After completing his military service Gordon accepted a job with Stovel Advocate Press of Winnipeg where he was to remain for the next 30 years. During his lifetime Gord quietly and selflessly gave of his personal time and resources to support those close to him. He was especially supportive of his mother after his father's passing. In 1972 Gordon married Lilja Hill (nee Johnson) and extended his influence to his new family. In 1985 Gord and Lilja retired to Victoria becoming longtime residents of Roberts House in the James Bay neighbourhood, with Gordon only recently leaving after the passing of his beloved Lilja in 2003 and the decline of his own health. During his lifetime Gordon was a model of dignity, kindness and respect, not only to those close to him, but to all of his fellow men. Gord will be missed, but not forgotten by sisters, Doris (Dot) Stewart and Geraldine (Dido) Johannson, niece Geri-Lyn Thompson, nephews, Larry Johannson, Jack, Robert and Neil Stewart, stepchildren David, Janice and Judy Hill, as well as numerous grand nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Glenwarren Lodge for the comfort they provided to Gordon. Cremation has taken place. Your cause for sorrow must not be measured by his worth, for then it hath no end. -Macbeth
