Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Frieda and Lena, brother-in-law Ernest Shilke, and stepfather Gustave Sass. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, three daughters, Janet (Murray Vogt) and children, Kari and Evan, Donna (Terry Klein), Bonnie (Jeff McEachern) and granddaughter Sydney, and nephew Allen Somers of Burnaby, BC. Dad was born on September 18, 1931 to Dan and Emilie (Kuehn) Schroeder in Friedensfeld, MB. In 1952 he moved to Sperling to help widow Alice Bilodeau and her five young children manage the farm. He became an important and trusted family member and later married Suzanne, Alice's oldest daughter, in 1959. As well as farming, Dad worked at CNR for 23 years as a plumber/pipefitter until his retirement in 1993. During his battle with Alzheimer's, Riverview Health Centre became his home and second family for the last seven years. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Riverview (Wards A1 and B1) as well as to those on the fourth floor in the early, difficult days. Joan, your boyfriend will miss you. Dad passed on his love of animals and the land to all of us. He loved singing and playing guitar. We will cherish our memories of Dad singing with us many nights at home and in the car on long road trips. Funeral service will be held in Brunkild, MB at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Interment will be at the Sperling Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Sperling Arena. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba at 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or online. Doyle's Funeral Chapel, in care of arrangements.
