ETHEL MARY BUCHANAN (nee LAST) March 12, 1924 - September 23, 2007 And then her journey was over. Our dear wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend is now at rest. Ethel passed away at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 23, 2007 after a year-long struggle with illness. Ethel was born March 12, 1924 at the family home in Argyle to Philip and Gertrude Last (Good). She spent her entire life in Argyle, attending Brant Argyle School where she met the love of her life William Buchanan. After working for Manitoba Telephone as a telephone operator for about two years Bill and Ethel were married October 26, 1946 at St. John's Brant Anglican Church. Her home and family were the centre of her life. She'll be remembered for her delicious pies, buns and cookies. She was the organist for the Argyle United Church, a 4-H leader, and she belonged to the U.C.W. and Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed curling, bowling, and shuffling. Together she and Bill enjoyed many card games and some traveling with friends. Families are forever, Ethel is survived and will be deeply missed by Bill, her husband of 60 years, daughter Brenda and Brian Morash of Pinawa, Darin, Kara Bissonnette (Jared); daughter Janice and Cliff Harrison of Domain, Deanna Gower (Bruce) Buchanan, Jodi, Gavin, Marni (Darren Nykoliation); son Bruce and Gwen Buchanan of Argyle, Trevor (Chrissy), Tyler (fiancé Martina), and Jennifer (special friend, Jeremy). She was very proud of her eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brooklyn and Riley Buchanan, Brice, Brick, and Shayla Gower, Troy Bissonnette, and Ava Nykoliation. She will be deeply missed by her brother Donald Last, brothers-in-law, Harvey and Evelyn Buchanan, Roy and Sheila Buchanan and many special nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Elbourne and sister-in-law Jean; sister-in-law Audrey Buchanan and son-in-law Dell Ellison. Our family wishes to thank the Argyle neighbours, homecare workers, Dr. Loudon and the wonderful staff at the Teulon Hospital. Special thanks to Donna Stewart for going beyond the call of duty. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, with interment to follow at the Argyle Cemetery. I sit in the quiet, Savouring the calm atmosphere And I smile. My road to this place was full of pain and sorrows But always with a hope of bright tomorrows. With faith and trust in God I learned to embrace my Life's journey. Now I am happy just being me. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
