SOPHIA HRYCIW It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Sophia Hryciw (nee Konarski) at Victoria Hospital on September 24, 2007, at the age of 77 years. Sophia was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 1991; her parents Maria Kushnir and Myhaylo Konarski. Sophia was born in Kizliw, Ternopil, Western Ukraine, on February 18, 1930. During the Second World War, Sophia and her family were taken to live in Regensburg, Germany. After the war they immigrated to Caracus, Venezuela, for five years, finally to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1952. She met and later married John in 1954, settling on Basswood Place to raise their family. She overcame numerous hardships during her lifetime, of which the greatest challenge was taking loving care of Dad for 15 years prior to his passing. She regretfully left her home and friends of 41 years and moved to Granite House on Henderson Highway, where she made many new friends. Mum played an active role in our early school years, working in many capacities with the Wolseley Home and School Association, and was a devoted member of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church and Women's League. Mum enjoyed many things, sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and in later years, the many weekend bus tours. After Dad's death, her whole life became her children and grandchildren, and she was always generous with her time and never forgot birthdays and special occasions. Sophia is lovingly remembered by daughters, Kathy Craig (Frank), Irene Abraham; son Myron Hryciw (Jennifer); grandchildren, Steven and Bryan Craig (Karine), Matthew and Andrea Abraham, Michelle and Nicole Hryciw; brother Alex Turczyn (Bev); niece Christine; nephew David; good friend Anna Pelc; and two other siblings, Walter and Olga. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 28 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave., with Fr. L. Ratushniak, C.S.s.R. officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of Victoria Hospital (5 North), Misericordia Health Centre (Cornish C2), St. Boniface Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. F. Olynyk and his staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the St. Boniface Research Foundation. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
