EDWARD KOSTENKO September 27, 1937 - September 22, 2007 It is with great sorrow the family of Edward Kostenko, announce the passing of their husband, father, grandfather, brother in the early morning of September 22, 2007 at the Victoria Hospital with his family at his bedside. Ed will be sadly missed by his loving family, wife and best friend of 50 years, Laura, sons, Greg (Rose), Michael (Rita), daughter Karen, grandchildren, Tarah, Natalie, Alexandria, Alexander, Natasha and Valerie, sister Shirley (Sol), brother-in-law Doug (Diane), sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jack), Jean and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents, John and Levina, mother and father-in-law, Irene and Gordon Slemmons and sister-in-law Marlene Slemmons. Ed enjoyed a career spanning 36 years as a firefighter with the Winnipeg Fire Department and volunteered in numerous organizations throughout his life. Ed was president of the Melrose Community Club where he helped develop many programs in East Kildonan such as: Lacrosse, girls baseball and coaching hockey. He was also an executive member of Roblin Park Community Centre where he organized similar activities as well as coaching hockey. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Maurice Snider, Dr. Ian Maxwell and Astrid for their exemplary medical care and support, and to all who participated in his care, especially Jackie and Eleanor at the Victoria General Hospital. Funeral service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 1:00 p.m., Friday September 28, 2007. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Edward's name to the VGH Oncology Development Fund, 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 2E8. Ed, Dad, Papa, you will be missed deeply. No one can fill your boots, so we'll be looking forward to dinner when we meet again at the firehall kitchen in the sky. Your loving family.
