Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON DUNCAN MCINTYRE The family of Gordon Duncan McIntyre announces his passing on August 19, 2007 in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Born in Russell, Manitoba on February 9, 1924, Gordon lived and went to school in Vista, Manitoba, where he enjoyed farming, the barn dances and playing in his family's dance band. In 1942 he enlisted in and was selected for the First Canadian Parachute Battalion. In the first of many life-altering experiences with the battalion, Gordon jumped at night into France behind enemy lines on D-Day June 6, 1944. After the war, Gordon returned to work with the Co-op store, first in Rossburn, and then in Solsgirth, Manitoba. In 1952, he and his wife, Phyllis moved to Flin Flon, where Gordon worked for the HBM S Company for 30 years. In their early years there, he enjoyed sports and camping with his young family in the trailers that he built himself. He renewed this pleasure in later years, camping with his children and grandchildren, his wee ones, at Bakers Narrows. Gordon was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and upon retiring devoted much of his time to Legion committees and to community service work. He and Phyllis also took a number of road trips in Canada and the States. Till the end of his life, he loved the open road and all that it represented. We will all remember his signature whistle, his uniquely casual wit, his love of singing and the private solace he took in the old hymns. Funeral services and burial were held in Flin Flon on August 24, 2007. The family wishes to express its gratitude to many friends and relations for their kindness to Gordon in the past months, especially to Wayne and Zetta Berg, to Ruth McIntosh and to Grant and Sheila Adams. Thanks are also extended to Dr. Martha Relling and the nurses at the Flin Flon General Hospital.
