LOUISE WAYLAND 1951 - 2007 Peacefully on September 25, 2007, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family members and friends to begin her journey in the after-life. Louise was talented, motivated, and highly principled. She always thought of others before herself. Louise was predeceased by both parents, and leaves to mourn her devoted husband (Gary Simard), her soulmate, kindred spirit, and best friend. She was the beloved sister of brothers, Raymond (Marie-Thérese), Donald and Peter. She was the daughter-in-law of Mary Simard, and sister-in-law of Kathy (John MacPhee). Louise also leaves many nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was much loved by all. Louise was born on July 26, 1951, and lived the first 17 years of her life in Quebec City. After finishing high-school, she moved to Montreal to study nursing, and became head nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital's emergency room at the young age of 24. She remained in Montreal until 1996 in various nursing and senior hospital administration positions. In 1990 she met her future husband Gary at the Downtown YMCA in Montreal, and the two were inseparable ever since. Louise and Gary moved to Winnipeg in September 1996, and while in Winnipeg she was employed in senior positions at KPMG, the WRHA, and IBM. Louise had a unique ability to get-things-done , no matter what. She was a global thinker, with excellent values. If more people shared her values, the world would be a better place. Louise has now departed, but will never ever be forgotten. She was a role model and pillar of strength to all those who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road. Interment will follow at a later date in Montreal. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Piotr Czaykowski and staff. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, at 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R3E OV9 would be appreciated. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I know it is 10 years ago and I only found out today in 2018, but Louise did not deserve this ending to her life. We knew each other in Quebec City, she would come by our house and we would talk. Saw her again in Montreal while she was doing her nursing program at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her career suited her well - her nursing cap, gentle face, soft spoken. Her face in her grad year 1968 and the picture in the obituary - age has not stolen her looks. She will be forever young. - Posted by: Mark Barras (Knew Louise from high school at St. Pats) on: Feb 27, 2018
