GWENDOLYN GEDDES HUBBELL 1908 - 2007 A life-long resident of Winnipeg, Gwen, in her 99th year, passed away peacefully September 25, 2007 at Oakview Extended Care Home. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Major E.L. (Ted) Hubbell, her sister Muriel Grant of Toronto, her daughter Sherrie and son-in-law Sid Asselin (Fort Frances, ON). She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Tracy (Dale) Newman of Brampton, ON, Rick (Michele) Asselin of Winnipeg and Ted (Nancy) Asselin of Fort Frances, ON. She was equally proud of her six great-grandchildren, Dustin, Danny, Janelle, Chantal, Jeremy and Brody. Two special people in her life were niece and nephew Joan (Tom) of Toronto and Don (Marie) of Markham, ON. Her family always brought joy to her life as she did to theirs. Nanna was a longtime member and worker in Augustine United Church. She was a tireless volunteer with the war effort through the Red Cross and during the Great Winnipeg flood in the early 1950's. In accordance with Nanna's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in St. John's Cathedral Cemetery with ashes interred beside her husband Ted. The family wishes to thank the staff of Oakview Extended Care for the great care and friendship she received while she was there. Donations may be made to Augustine United Church, 444 River Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0C7 or Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 1A5. Condolences may be extended through Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0X4. Nanna's gracious and kind soul will live on forever in all of us. AFTERGLOW I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing time and bright and sunny days I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long And cherish those very special memories to which I belong.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Auntie Gwen was such a dear! Both the "Geddes Girls," Muriel and Gwen, were incredibly important to me with their big smiles and constant support. Auntie Gwen helped awakened in me a real sense of the Geddes' "greater family." I will always remember her with gratitude... - Posted by: Anne Geddes-Atwell (Family) on: Sep 28, 2007
