He will also be lovingly remembered by his dear friends Mary Reddekopp and Margaret Hislop. Homer was born on February 9, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the eldest son of Albert and Annie Elizabeth Ogston. He was fleet of foot, and held the record for the 100-yard dash at his high school for many years. He married Mildred Annie Rowe in January, 1939 and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Homer had a long and distinguished career in the petroleum industry. His first job was digging holes by hand for underground fuel tanks for British American Oil, and when he retired years later, he was a Marketing Vice-president for Gulf Canada. He loved golf, and spent many happy days on the links, shooting an amazing three holes-in-one over the years. Homer and Mildred also loved the ocean and lived for many years on the San Luis Obispo coast. Homer was a friend to all who knew him and a neighbour to all who needed help. In 2006, he was recognized for his volunteer work, being named an Outstanding Calgary Senior by the Alberta Association on Gerontology. The family wishes to thank all the staff and residents of the Wentworth Manor for their friendship and care for Homer. We also wish to thank the staff of Unit 73 at the Rockyview Hospital, and the amazing, caring staff of Chinook Hospice. Our special thanks to Dr. Gordon Melling and Sharon for their kind care. Homer's family loves and misses him. He was a man - take him for all and all. I shall not look upon his like again.
