Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE VALENTONIS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Valentonis, aged 80 years, of Lac du Bonnet on Monday, September 24, 2007. George is survived by his daughter, Georgia Milne, her husband Ron, and their children Logan and Marina, all of Lac du Bonnet. Dad was born on November 25, 1926 in Geguzine, Lithuania and immigrated to Canada in 1927 with his parents. The family settled first in Saskatchewan, then moved to Winnipeg. In 1934 they set up their family farm in Lee River where they continued to live and work for years. George worked various jobs and then settled in at Abitibi-Price in Pine Falls in 1963, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1991. He was involved with many facets of the company from heavy equipment work to making roads to eventually becoming a supervisor. Dad was an honourable, quiet and very intelligent man who enjoyed staying home, reading the paper, and tinkering with small engines of any kind. He loved to take things apart, fix them and put them back together. He had a very strong work ethic and believed in doing everything well that he became involved with. His other hobbies included welding, reading and good one-on-one conversations with his friends talking both about the old days and current events. His family meant everything to him, especially his grandchildren whom he loved to baby-sit, spend time with and give and get hugs from. George was predeceased by his mother Ona in 1950, his father Joseph in 1977 and his brother Charles in 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's memory to the Palliative Care division of Pinawa Hospital. Cremation has taken place; a private family interment will follow at a later date. We express our eternal gratitude to Dr. Richard Van Gend, the staff of the LdB Personal Care Home, and especially the nursing staff of the Pinawa Hospital, all of whom cared so wonderfully for Dad. I am proud to say I had the best Dad in the world and I will miss him more than he could ever imagine. Sobering Funeral Chapel Crematorium, Beausejour 268-3510 or MB toll free 1-877-776-2220
