Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH OREMBA Peacefully, on September 25, 2007, Joseph Oremba passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 81 years. Joe was born in Czechoslovakia on May 31, 1926 and came to Canada at the age of 9 months. He was raised in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan and left as a teenager to join the navy and fight in the Second World War. He married Elma Johnson and settled in Winnipeg in 1952 where he built his own house and raised two children. He worked as a stationary engineer for Labatt's Brewery for over 20 years, while also serving as a union shop steward and negotiator. Joe loved the great outdoors and was always community and sports minded. Hunting and fishing were his passions, and he was involved in numerous organizations such as Labatt's Game Fish Association, Manitoba Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited, to name a few. He coached little league baseball and minor hockey. He was also a Boy Scout leader and an instructor at Labatt's Junior Rifle Club. He was an avid curler and played old timers hockey well into his sixties. He enjoyed gardening as much as he enjoyed giving his home grown vegetables to friends and neighbours. His warm sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Joe was predeceased by his wife Elma and daughter Pat. He is survived by his son Randy. Special thanks to the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate care of Joe during his final months. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 1, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (Aubrey Street entrance) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. neil bardal inc 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
