Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD EUGENE MELNYCHUK 1952 - 2007 On Friday, September 28, 2007, Edward passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre with his loving wife, Leona and family at his side. Edward was born on August 22, 1952 in Fort Frances, Ontario to the parents of Nick and Olga Melnychuk. He received his Baccalaureate of Arts in Psychology from the University of Manitoba and later a Diploma in Psychiatric of Nursing from the Manitoba School in Portage la Prairie. Edward loved to travel and he went to Australia, China and to many places across Canada. His most enjoyable trip was last year when he and his wife Leona traveled to China. Edward had a special interest in working with the under privileged in our society. This took him to the North West Territories where he spent a number of years working with the Mental Health Services at Kitikmeot, Kugluktuk and Nunavut. He was generous, kind, considered and accommodating to everyone regardless of their status. He loved them all and always was willing to lend a helping hand whenever the need was required. In 2003, he returned home to assist his parents in coping with his Dad's health problems. The last couple of years and prior to his passing, he worked at the East Gate Lodge in Beausejour and also at the St. Amant Centre in Winnipeg. Edward was predeceased by his grandparents, his dad and his Aunt Sophie. He will be forever missed and cherished by his loving wife, Leona; his mother Olga Melnychuk; mother-in-law; his sister Sylvia (Orest) Makowsky, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at 5A at the Health Sciences Centre and also to Dr. Berrington and Dr. Campbell. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba or the Shalom Food Bank.
