DR. ALEXANDER A. (SANDY) CAMPBELL 1926 - 2007 Sandy passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 29, 2007. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pat, of 54 years of marriage, and their children, and families; Peter (Matthew and Lauren), Craig (Diane Brueton, Kelsey and Luke), Alison (Alan Scramstad, Carly, Leah and Rachel), and Lawrence (Liza Campbell, Alex and Lara). He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Murray and sisters, Joan Mackie and Anne Mutch. Sandy and his twin sister, Anne, were born on Christmas Day, 1926. He graduated from medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1950, following in the footsteps of his father and two brothers. He commenced his medical career in Flin Flon and did further studies in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1956 he returned to Winnipeg with Pat and their first born son, Peter, and began his medical practice with his brother, Murray, at 95 Sherbrook Street. Sandy was active on the staff of Misericordia General Hospital where he served as chair of the Department of General Practice and Chief of Staff. From 1979 to 1981 Sandy and Pat worked at the United Church Mission Hospital in Bella Bella, British Columbia. When they returned to Winnipeg, Sandy practiced as a Medical Officer of Health with the Province of Manitoba. He was a life long member of St. Stephens Broadway United Church and was active in his community, serving as President of the St. James YMCA. He was named a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and awarded a Senior Membership in the Canadian Medical Association. Sandy was first and foremost a family man. His passions included canoe trips with his kids, family dinners, world travels with Pat, and encouraging his grandchildren's athletic and musical pursuits. He enjoyed listening to opera, singing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Singers, and playing violin, trombone and French horn. Throughout his life, the family cottage at Fox Lake was a magical place for gathering and celebrating, from one generation to the next. Sandy's patience and persistence in woodworking resulted in two beautiful cedar strip canoes that he paddled for hours on the clear waters of the Fox Lake. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Manitoba or to the Clinical Learning Centre of the Manitoba Medical College, 260 - 727 McDiarmid Avenue, Winnipeg R3E 3P5. Sandy was a man of utmost integrity, compassion and humility. He will be so very much missed by us all. WOJCIK'S 897 4665
