Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGREGORY HARRY SLOKER Gregory Harry Sloker was born in Winnipeg January 5, 1914 and passed away September 28, 2007. He was the beloved father of Maureen Sloker and Nancy Zeilstra (Mark); grandfather of Ron, Brian, Grant and Derek Zeilstra and great-grandfather of Kaitlin, Arabella, Juliana, Marcus and Christopher. His cherished wife of 65 years, Olga, predeceased him in 2004. The eldest of six siblings, he leaves to mourn his youngest brother, Leonard Sloker of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by sisters, Anne and Stephanie and brothers, Fred and Paul. He was an Electronic Technician with Royal Canadian Signal Corps, working in Kingston, ON during the Second World War. He opened up a radio and TV Service business in 1946. He took many courses during that time such as Advanced Industrial Electronics, Engineering Drafting, and later, Computer. He was a member of the Institute of Electronics Engineers, Manitoba Wireless Experimenters Association and many other groups. As a civilian employee he was appointed Electronic Technician, Army Signals Transmitting Station at Ft. Whyte in 1952 and transferred to 731 Communication Squadron at CFB Shilo, MB in 1964. He was honoured by Ottawa for 27 years in the Public Service upon his retirement in 1978. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour, his love of family, his passion for music, his artistic abilities and his gift of caring for and inspiring others. Heartfelt thanks go to caregivers, pastors, hospital staff and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Avenue.
