PHILIP ANDREW (DREW) PETURSSON It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden death of our cherished husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Born in Winnipeg, August 4, 1951. Died at St. Boniface Hospital September 30, 2007. Predeceased by his parents Petur and Joan, Drew will be lovingly missed by his wife Adrienne Bouchard Langlois, son Roland Gatin (Isabelle Vilm), grandson Jule Gatin; brothers, Jeff and Barry (Joan Munro), cousin Carla McKnight (Rick Gamble) and numerous lifelong friends in Winnipeg and across the country. Drew enjoyed his fulfilling and challenging career at Naylor Publications, where he worked since 2001. He cherished his relationships with colleagues and clients and was greatly respected as a professional and mentor and as someone who was deeply committed to providing exemplary service. Drew attended Grant Park High and excelled and distinguished himself in both academics and athletics. Studying 20th Century English Literature at the University of Manitoba, he further developed a strong and lifelong passion for learning and language. A poet in thought as well as in deed, his deep love of the world illuminated his understanding and compassion for those around him. He became fluently bilingual as an adult and lived in France where his erudition was recognized and appreciated by all he met. He valued education for its own sake. To paraphrase Francis Bacon, Drew took all knowledge to be his province. Drew's courage and compassion remain as an enduring legacy in the hearts of all who knew him. The family expresses deepest gratitude to Drew's colleagues at Naylor Publications for their loving support during his illness, and to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Drew's memory can be made to the Lake Winnipeg Foundation (Box 450, Matlock, MB R0C 2B0), to the Icelandic Chair at the University of Manitoba (Department of Development, 179 Extended Education Complex, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2N2) or to a charity of your choice.
