VALERIE SUE BROOKS (LAND) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Valerie on Friday, September 28, 2007. We take comfort in knowing that she was at one of her favorite places - the golf course, with her husband Gary and good friends Pat and Keith Nesbitt at her side. She was born in Winnipeg on February 18, 1949 and resided in Winnipeg most of her life except for a few years in British Columbia. Valerie was predeceased by her father, Earl Land and her mother, Dorothy (Doris) Land, mother and father-in-law, Elva and Bill Brooks. She is survived by Gary, her husband of 30 years, brother Barry (Donna) Land, sisters Gail Duncan and Donna (Wayne) Wolanski, sisters-in-law Linda Dale, Valerie (Alex) Gelhorn Lorraine (Ron) Bannon, and brother-in-law Bill (Kathy) Brooks and many nieces and nephews and their families. Val's cats Butterscotch and Licorice, meant the world to her and Gary. She brought them home for the weekend and they are still there 10 years later. Valerie spent her working life at Child and Family Services and her job was more to her than a means of earning a living. She was dedicated to her co-workers and clients. Valerie had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She met the love of her life, Gary, at the Charleswood Golf Club and this led to her passion for golf. When the Charleswood course closed Val later moved to Assiniboine Golf Club. She loved shopping, country music, Las Vegas, the girls' casino bus trips and enjoyed traveling with Gary. Val was a loving, generous person who was always ready with a helping hand and was everybody's friend. She was an active associate member of the ANAF #283 and loved the Saturday afternoon meat draws. We want to thank the Headingley Fire and Emergency Service and the Grace Hospital Emergency staff for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place. The service will be Thursday, October 4th at l2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg with Rev. Barbara Roberts officiating. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice. We love you and will miss you. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
