Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMERLE ANN BELL (nee JOHNSON) Suddenly on Saturday, September 29, 2007 Merle passed away peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her children, Gwen Waedt (Helmut), Lorna Bielski, Doug Bell (Susan), and Laura Bell (Rick), grandchildren Christina, Allison, Lindsay, Kyleigh, Hayleigh and Nicholas. Merle was born in Winnipeg on September 2, 1937, the youngest child of Annie and Elmer Johnson. She lived most of her life in the North End of Winnipeg and as a young child spent her summers in Sandy Hook. Her first job at fourteen was on the Boardwalk at Winnipeg Beach. Her first real job was with the Royal Bank of Canada. On April 19, 1958 she married John. They lived and raised their four children in Swan River, Dauphin and Winnipeg. In later years they lived in Ottawa and then moved back to Winnipeg to enjoy their six grandchildren. Merle and John loved the outdoors, camping, boating and fishing. They traveled with their little camper from coast to coast in Canada and throughout the USA. Merle also loved participating in all kinds of sports, was an ardent gardener and an excellent quilter and crafter. After the passing of John, Merle took to traveling with tour groups and kept on seeing the world by bus, plane, train and cruise ship. Merle was also an active member and served on the Board of Directors of the North Centennial Seniors Club. Merle will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. The family would like to give an open invitation to those wanting to share memories of Mom's past. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
