Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryW. GORDON MAWHINNEY August 21, 1942 September 29, 2007 Unexpectedly, on Saturday, September 29, 2007, Gord passed away at the age of 65. He was predeceased by his father, mother, beloved wife, Hope and faithful canine companion, Chomper. Gord will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his son Rob and daughter Meghan, his sister May (Ed), his niece and nephew, Dana and Craig (Sue-Anne), and many, many loving cousins. In 1959, Gord graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. After graduation, he worked for CNR, the Stock Yards and Versatile Equipment, but his most rewarding job was as Mr. Mom to Rob and Meghan. Family was the most important part of Gord's life, and he was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. In 1994, he and Hope set off on a new entrepreneurial endeavour and Face-Off Cards was born. As their popularity grew, the need for bigger and better lodgings moved them to their current location on Ness Avenue. Gord could often be seen at the Assiniboia Downs, the St. James YMCA (aquasizing), and enjoying conversation with the staff at Perkins over coffee and a low-fat muffin where his glowing stories about his kids could be heard for miles. He was an avid golfer and recently fell in love with the courses in Lake Havasu, AZ, where he happily kept warm during our Winnipeg winters. Gord lived every day with joy, kindness, a lucky horse pick and a worn out library card. His quiet love and warm smile will be greatly missed by his family, friends and customers. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba. A very special thanks goes to all friends and family who have provided support, love and plenty of food during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation towards The Fight Against Breast Cancer, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 304-1 Wesley Avenue,Winnipeg, Manitoba, and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
