Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSANNE (BRAUN) GOMIEN Peacefully on October 2, 2007, at Vista Park Lodge, where she had made her home for the past three years, Susanne left us to meet her Saviour. Susanne was born to Peter and Katherina Braun of Altona on November 25, 1917, the sixth of 12 children. In 1952 she married the love of her life, Leon Gomien. Their daughter Gina was born in 1963. After completing grade school in the local district of Langevin, Susanne pursued a career in nursing and worked in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Steinbach. After meeting Leon, who was her patient in the Steinbach Hospital, things were never the same. They married soon after. Leon was employed by the CNR and she followed him to various remote posts where he worked as a station agent. The last posting before settling in Winnipeg in 1971 was in Lundar where many lasting friendships were made. Susanne was a devoted wife and mother. Gina was born with Downs Syndrome and she and Leon made working for the mentally challenged a priority. She was a nurturing person who enjoyed preparing great meals and sharing good times with family and friends. In 2004 Susanne moved to Vista Park Lodge where she was very well cared for and soon became a favourite of many of the staff. She had a feisty and spunky personality, a fantastic sense of humour and a classy and delicate charm. Susanne is survived by her beloved daughter Gina, her sisters, Helen Goossen and Mary Lee Friesen. She was predeceased by Leon her husband of 54 years in June 2006 and by four brothers and five sisters. A service to honour Susanne's life will be held on Friday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment and reception to follow. Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. A special thanks goes to the staff at Vista Park Lodge who treated Susanne with dignity and made sure her final years were safe and comfortable.
