SALA Evelyn Mary Lister Gourlay Peel Sala (nee Craig), 88 years of age, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2007, at her residence in Ottawa, Ontario. Evelyn was born in Ladybank, Fife, Scotland, on April 24, 1919, the youngest of four daughters. During the war, she lived and worked in Glasgow. There she met and married, in Greenock in 1944, Henry G. Sala, then serving in the Canadian Navy. She immigrated to Canada as a young war bride early in 1945 with twin babies just a few months old, living with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Martha Sala, until her husband returned from the war. Evelyn lived in Winnipeg from 1945 to 2003 and moved to Ottawa in October of 2003. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years in 1998, her parents Isabella and Francis Craig, and by her sisters in Scotland, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Isabella. She was always proud of her Scottish heritage and held a special fondness for her homeland throughout her life. Evelyn is survived by her four children, son Norman, daughter Frances Olivier and son-in-law Henri, son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Leislie, and daughter Darlene Craig, three grandchildren Jean-Claude, Jean-Paul, and Alexander, and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Gabrielle. A memorial service for Evelyn will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5. Evelyn will rest along side her husband at the Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may, on Evelyn's behalf, make a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
