VERNA ILENE HAY It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Verna Ilene Hay announce her passing on October 2, 2007. With her devoted husband Ronnie at her side, Verna closed her eyes and started her journey to heaven. Verna was born on January 29, 1923 and spent the first six years of her life in Russell, Manitoba. From Russell she moved to Vista where she attended school, danced and sang and played her beloved piano. It was in Vista that the love of her life Ronald Hay swept her off her feet. Her first job was working in the post office in Vista. After a year she left Vista to attend Normal School in Winnipeg so that she could pursue a career as a teacher. She taught school for numerous years in Perth, Virden, and Winnipeg. On June 18, 1947 Ronnie and Verna were married. They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Judy. Verna was a devoted wife and mother who loved her home and family. She spent countless hours entertaining friends and family with her extraordinary musical ability. She volunteered her time and talents to the Ladies Auxiliary, the Legion, and the church. When faced with challenges she remained strong and always gave encouragement. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, for her generous and hard working nature, for her honesty and for her dedication to family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory family members including husband Ronnie, daughter Judy, son Kevin (May Jean), grandchildren, Nancy (Bruce), Sheryl, Andrea (Trevor), Steven (Cherise), and her six great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her loving sister Rita Wetteland, as well as sisters-in-law Adele McIntyre, Phyllis McIntyre and Connie Van Alstyne, (Aubrey) as well as many nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Raymond, Ritchie, and Gordon. A funeral service to celebrate Verna's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at John Black United Church, 898 Henderson Highway with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers donations in Verna's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care that the nurses on 3E at Concordia Hospital provided to Verna and her family.
