ROGER A. ZWICKEL 1932 - 2007 It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Roger on October 2, 2007, at Riverview Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Remaining to cherish his memory are his son Roger in Florida; his sister Georgette, his brother-in-law Paul as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all in France. Roger was born in France and came to Canada to complete his pilot's training where he met and married his first wife Carmen Gourbil. Upon graduation he returned to France and North Africa to complete his French Air Force contract as a flying instructor. When he returned to Canada he was bush flying for some time. His second calling was the restaurant business where he successfully owned and operated the Red Lantern Steak House in St. Boniface. During that time he joined the 402 Squadron in Winnipeg that was heavily involved in search and rescue at that time. He then married his second wife Patrice Brooks. After 10 years as a search and rescue pilot, Roger retired as Major to concentrate more time on his business and on developing his food service skills at Red River College. Once he sold his business, he focused the rest of his career as a food service manager and retired from Beacon Hill Lodge at the age of 72 in 2005. In compliance with Roger's wishes there will be no formal funeral service. A reception will be held at Cathedrale Manor, 321 Ave de la Cathedrale, fourth floor, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0A3, on Saturday, October 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A special thank you to the staff of CancerCare: Denise Klassen and Dr. Czaykowski and the staff of Riverview Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Room 1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB Canada R3E 0V9, or online at www.cancercare.mb.ca Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715

  • Dear Roger I was saddened to learn of your DaD's passing. His joie de vivre was infectious. When he came to work with us at Beacon Hill Lodge he immediately fit in so well and was a true asset to our team. I could ALWAYS count on him. I hope that you find peace in knowing that your DaD was truly respected, admired and loved. - Posted by: Shelley Gurvey (Co-Worker) on: Oct 06, 2007
