PRISCILLA NELLIE ANNIE RUSSELL (HURLBERT)
Born: Sep 02, 1922
Date of Passing: Sep 27, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPRISCILLA NELLIE ANNIE RUSSELL (nee HURLBERT) September 2, 1922 to September 27, 2007 Peacefully after a short illness in Victoria General Hospital, our dear Mother and Grandmother Priscilla left us at the age of 85. Remaining to cherish her memory are her son Darwin (Jackie) Briggs of Langley, BC and her daughters, Lois (Buck Byers) Leslie of Brandon, Cheryl (Paul) Link of Morden and Pat (Bill) Dance of Winnipeg; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Theresa Black of Estevan and sister-in-law Kay Allum of Brandon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially her good friend Iris Martin. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest (1996); parents, William and Annie Isabella (1959 and 1982) and her brother Russell (1977). Priscilla was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan where she married Ernest T.C. Russell on April Fools Day, 1953. Mom was the ultimate housewife and mother who did laundry Monday's, ironed Tuesday's and baked on Friday's as she raised her children and her grandson Bill. She had many hobbies including knitting, sewing, crochet, needlepoint paper tole, quilting as well as bowling and watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Rough Riders on TV. She baked for school, church and community fundraisers and helped with rummage sales at the Church as she followed Dad's work with the CNR to Regina, Dauphin and The Pas before retiring back to Dauphin and then to Winnipeg. It was here that she nursed Dad through the many complications of diabetes until his passing on Valentines Day, 1996 and then dealt bravely with her own health issues for these past 11 years. She moved into the Meadowood Manor assisted living complex in 2003 and enjoyed the independence it afforded. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service and celebration of Priscilla's life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12 at Glen Lawn Funeral Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard with Rev. Bill Oakley officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at Meadowood Manor, 575 St. Anne's Road. The family wishes to thank the 5th Floor staff at Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and care and to the home care staff who made it possible for Mom to remain comfortably in her own apartment. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Priscilla's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. You will always walk with us Mom, even though you have gone through the gates. We cannot see you but you are with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Lawn Funeral Home 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
