RONALD PAUL ZARNEY (THE Z) August 12, 1954 - October 6, 2007 With heavy hearts and great sadness Barb, Brent and Jillian announce the passing of Ron after a second battle with cancer. Ron was surrounded by his family, at home where he wanted to be. Ron was a long time resident of St. James and a graduate of John Taylor Collegiate. Ron worked many years in the restaurant business and then spent the last 22 years in the automotive industry. In 1980, while manager at Crock Block Restaurant, Ron met Barb, his wife of 24 years. Brent and Jill followed, giving both Barb and Ron many happy years together as a family. He will be dearly missed. Ron participated in many sports while he was growing up but it was as a parent that Ron showed his greatest support in all levels of hockey, ringette and baseball, not only as a spectator but also as a coach. Ron's biggest joy these last few years was the big screen TV where he could watch many sporting events all at the same time. Ron's careers allowed him constant contact with people who came to love his sharp sense of humour and great zest for life. He leaves behind a great many people who came to respect him in both professions. Ron made Barb laugh everyday of their lives together. Ron is survived by his wife Barb; children, Brent and Jillian; his mother Reta Hawryluk; sisters, Sandy and Maryanne; Barb's parents, Jim and Cynthia Slevin; sisters, Deb and Rolf Netzel, Becky and Garry Parkes, Jamie and Rick Kusmirski, many nieces and nephews as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. Ron was predeceased by his father William and brothers, Richard and Bill Jr. Thanks go out to many doctors, nurses and health care professionals that touched Ron's life over the last several months. Thank you to all friends and family for your love, prayers and support. Ron so enjoyed the visits by all of you. A special thanks to Harold Neudorf and co-workers for all they have done. Funeral service will be held at the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., Winnipeg, on Wednesday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. The service will terminate at the church. Flowers are gratefully declined and those who wish may make a donation to the Children's Wish Foundation, Manitoba Chapter, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2, a charity that holds great thanks from the Zarney Family. When a loved one becomes a memory, A memory becomes a treasure. Treasure the memories. We will miss you Z LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Ron when we both worked at 7-UP on the trucks. He was a lot of fun and a very generous guy. A few years later, my 6-year old son (he's now 24) contracted lymphatic cancer. I knew that Ron was a survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and phoned him for advice. We talked often and he helped boost my spirits at a time when I was desperate for support. Ron was a wonderful guy and will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathy for the family. Ron Boyko - Posted by: Ron Boyko (Friend) on: Oct 11, 2007

I knew that Ron had survived Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and phoned him up for advice. He gave me much-needed moral support at a time when I was desperate for it. I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him and I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy to Ron's family. Ron Boyko - Posted by: Ron Boyko (Friend) on: Oct 11, 2007
