ANTONI JOZEF TOMSZAK
Date of Passing: Oct 04, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTONI JOZEF TOMSZAK It is with great sadness that the family announces the loss of their beloved husband, father (tata), grandfather (dziadzio) on Thursday, October 4, 2007, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Remaining to forever cherish Antoni's memory are his loving wife Bronislawa; daughter Sophie (Rob) Elgar; son Czeslaw (Diane); daughter Chris (Rick); daughter Wanda (Jim); four grandchildren, Kathleen (Gil), Andrzej, Michelle, and Alain; as well as numerous relatives in Poland and Edmonton. Antoni was born in 1920 in Bestwinka, in the county of Bielsko Biala, district of Katowice, Poland. In 1939, he joined the Carpathia Brigade of the Polish Army and fought in Alexandria, Tobruk, and Monte Casino. In 1946 he immigrated to Canada and took up residence in Winnipeg. He married Bronislawa in 1949, his wife of 58 years. Antoni was a hard worker and his longest tenure was as a carman for CP Rail. He was actively involved in the Polish community and was a member of SPK Polish Combatants Association, The Royal Canadian Legion 34 Mynarski V.C., and the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. Antoni was also one of the founding directors of the Polish Credit Union and a dedicated volunteer for disabled veterans. When he was not working, he enjoyed travelling. Trips to Poland, Italy, British Columbia, and especially the hot springs in Banff were some of his favourites. Antoni liked nursing injured birds, long brisk walks, blueberry picking, and the beach, but his favourite pastime was sunning on his McMillan Avenue porch. He was never late for anything, never complained, was generous with his time, and a great listener. Antoni's grandchildren will cherish the special poems he wrote each of them on their birthdays. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, with an Oblate Father presiding. Interment will follow in the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. Special thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and attention. Words cannot express the loving, endless devotion that Mama gave to Tata. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Antoni's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6. Wieczny Odpoczynek Racz Mu Dac, Panie
