Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALMA ELIZABETH PETERS Alma Elizabeth Peters passed away peacefully on October 6, 2007 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 85. Alma will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Lloyd, sons, Robert (Jennifer) and James (Kimberly), and grandchildren, Erin, Laura, David, Riley and Alexa. Also missing Alma will be her sisters, Edith Brown and Divona (Jim) Stone, and her brother Harold (Kay) Gellert, and the many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember her for her decency, compassion and sense of humour. Alma was born in Winnipeg in 1921 but moved with her family to Ashern, Manitoba soon after, where she lived until she was six. After her father's death, the family moved back to Winnipeg for a year before settling in Beausejour, Manitoba. Alma attended school in Beausejour and lived there until she was 17. She returned to Winnipeg and held a variety of jobs, including working for Woolworth's and Eaton's department stores. After training as a bookkeeper and typist at the Angus Business College, Alma landed a job at Winnipeg's Family Bureau in 1944. While there she developed many long and lasting friendships, including Grace and Nora Coultry, Audrey Fridfinnson, and Eileen Craig, among many others. She also developed a lasting friendship with caseworker Marjorie Peters, who was responsible for introducing Alma to her future husband, Lloyd Peters. Alma and Lloyd were married on July 18, 1953 in Winnipeg and they soon left for Edmonton, where her sons Robert and James were born. In 1957, the family moved back to Winnipeg and lived in various locations, including the Garry Manor, Beaumont Bay and Hudson Street. Alma and Lloyd moved to Southpark Estates in Fort Richmond in 1997. Alma was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. She always had time for anyone who simply wanted to talk or listen to her quiet wisdom. Her many friendships were deep and long-lasting. The family would like to acknowledge the support and kindnesses of the many health care professionals who attended to Alma in her last months, including the home care and palliative care workers, and staff of the Riverview Health Centre. We would especially like to thank Dr. Karen Boyd for her extra level of support and compassion for Alma over the years. Services will be held to celebrate Alma's life on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
