ROBERT (BERT) TAPLIN COMRIE 1920-2007 Bert died peacefully at Health Sciences Centre on October 8, 2007. Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Irene, his son David, his daughter Wilma, and his grandchildren Jeremy, Riley and Courtney. He also leaves to mourn his brother George Comrie and brother-in-law Jim Sproule. He was predeceased by his father Robert (1949), his sister Audrey Nichol (1973) and his mother Elizabeth (1986). Bert was born July 19, 1920 at the farm home in R.M. of Rosser. He attended a one room school and high school in Winnipeg. He graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He farmed continuously until 1989. He served on many Committees and Boards; as the appointee from R.M. Rosser on the Board of the Little Mountain School Reunion, on the Committee for the Rosser History Book and Chairman of the Municipal School Board for 11 years. He was a volunteer driver for the Stonewall Health Unit for eight years. Bert was a Mason and was initiated into the Ionic Lodge #25 sixty-five years ago. He served as Worshipful Master in 1954. He was on the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes. He was Almoner of the Valley of Winnipeg from 1973 until 1996. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite where he was the recipient of the Walter C. MacDonald medal for meritorious service to the Valley of Winnipeg. He received his Honorary 33rd Degree from Supreme Council in 1991. He received as a member of the Royal Order of Scotland and served as Manitoba Provincial Grand Master. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Foundation (Mason's Care), 420 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0N8, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral Service is to be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home.
