EMMA MALMAS Emma Malmas passed away peacefully at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, Manitoba on October 10, 2007. Emma was born February 27, 1915 in Gammalsvenskby, Ukraine to Peter and Katherina Hoas. Her family along with 900 others left the village of Gammalsvenskby on June 22, 1929 and arrived in Sweden on August 1, 1929 with the help of the Swedish Red Cross. They were able to move to Canada and arrived in Wetaskawin, Alberta in 1930 where they resided for one year before moving to Meadows, Manitoba on April 17, 1931 with eight other families. Most of Emma's life was spent in Meadows. Emma married John Malmas on December 25, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. Emma was an original member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by husband John, sons, Leonard and Baby Malmas, daughters, Sigrid Johnson, Esther Dudman, sons-in-law, Bill Johnson, Barry Palmer and Walter Najduch. She is survived by son Nels (Janet), daughters, Jenny Najduch, Lennea Malmas, Signe Johnson, Alma Malmas, Elsie Murray (Graham), Carol Palmer, sons-in-law, George Johnson and Jim Dudman. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren. Emma is survived by brothers, John Hoas, Nels Hoas, sisters, Christina Taylor and Ellen Mykle. Mom took great pride in her family especially her grandchildren who spent many summer vacations with her on her farm in Meadows. She spent countless hours in her kitchen cooking for her family. Her specialties were delicious cinnamon buns and bread. Mom loved gardening and her flowers were always beautiful and her vegetable garden abundant. Many wonderful times were had on the farm whether at Christmas or just sitting around the kitchen table, visiting, laughing, playing cards and of course a few cheers. When she left the farm, she spent several years in Whiterock, British Columbia and her remaining years at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. We would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Lodge for the passionate and excellent care. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bruce Johnson, David Najduch, Dan Malmas, Ben Malmas, Travis Murray, and Andy Johnson. Viewing will be held Sunday, October 14, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge Avenue, Winnipeg. The funeral service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, on Monday, October 15, 1:00 p.m. Rest in eternal peace dear mother, grandmother and friend. You will be missed.
