DR. BHARAT (CHARLES) RAMNANAN MAHARAJ and GEORGETTE MARIE ALINE (NAULT) MAHARAJ It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Bharat (Charles) Ramnanan Maharaj and Mrs. Georgette Marie Aline (Nault) Maharaj announce their peaceful passing with their children by their sides on September 25, 2007 and September 30, 2007 respectively. Hindu prayers and private services were held at Thomson in the Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 29, 2007 and October 3, 2007. Charles and Georgette celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past summer in Swan River, Manitoba, marking a lifetime of love and devotion to one another. It is evident that the depth and extent of this commitment knew no physical boundaries. Dr. Bharat (Charles) Maharaj, the eldest son of Gunpat and Sumintra Maharaj was born on December 17, 1931 in Princess Town, Trinidad, West Indies. After excelling in his studies in Trinidad, he left home to pursue his education in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where he earned a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba. He then went on to receive doctorates in medicine from both the University of Paris and the University of Manitoba. Georgette Marie Aline (Nault) Maharaj, the youngest child of Marie Louise (Vandall) and Alfred Nault was born on March 31, 1932 in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. After completing her education in Woodridge, Manitoba she returned to the St. Boniface Hospital where she had been born to begin work as a nurse's assistant. It is there where she met her lifelong sweetheart Charles Maharaj, a medical resident. The two were married in Winnipeg in 1962 and eventually moved to Benito and then on to Swan River, Manitoba where they worked side by side for the next 45 years in the practice of medicine. Joining with their daughters Calista and Adora, and son-in-law Timothy in cherishing their memories are two families: Charles' siblings, Camal (husband Mahadeo), Karma, Gunness (wife Alice), Radha and Seeta (husband Robert); Uncle Praim (wife Marlene); nieces and nephews Suenita (husband Sudhir), Anjanie (husband David), Vidya (husband Allan), Winston (wife Karlene), Rishi (wife Nazeena), Lalita (husband Hamid), Indra, Ian (wife Kim), Mitra (wife Jacqueline),Vishnu, Davinand, Aditi and their children. Georgette's brother Daniel, her sisters-in-law Georgette and Alexine, cousins Stuart, Vern and Roberta and numerous nieces and nephews, including Yvonne and John (wife Jackie). Calista and Adora would like to acknowledge and thank the over one hundred and fifty individuals who attended the public memorial service held in Swan River on October 6, 2007 honouring their parents. Each who attended shared wonderful stories of a unique and special couple, dedicated to serving the community for the past 45 years and in doing so provided great comfort their daughters. Special thanks is also extended for the friendship and the extraordinary care provided over the past year to their parents by Dr. Maharaj's colleagues and the staff of doctors and nurses at the Swan Valley Health Facility. In particular, Drs. Theodore, Singh, Wickert, Joshi and Marx, as well as the compassion and understanding extended in the past three months by the Swan Valley Home Care Services, in particular homecare worker and dear friend, Nancy Turton whose kindness and assistance cannot be measured. Calista and Adora also wish to thank Pandit Bal and Lalita Monguru for their spiritual guidance, support and kindness during this time. It is the families' belief that the soul is part of the divine essence and by nature pure and perfect, infinite in power and blessed, was never created, will never die, but will pass from body to body until it achieves perfection. In honour of their commitment to health care in Swan River and their love of animals, donations may be made in the memory of Dr. Charles and Georgette Maharaj to the Swan Valley Health Care Facility and/or the Swan Valley Veterinary Clinic.
