LOIS ANNE YOUNGSON (MERKELEY)
Date of Passing: May 19, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS ANNE YOUNGSON (nee MERKELEY) Our family was saddened on Saturday, September 29, 2007 when Lois Anne (nee Merkeley) Youngson gently left us. We have always marveled at the strength of her commitment to us and to her community - hers was truly a life well lived. Our family was raised with stories of her days as a TCA stewardess, her incredible links to nursing school classmates, family and friends in Winnipeg. As kids we grew up with bridge sandwiches left over from Truce Club Meetings, a club that touches so many in the community. A club that was the core of her activity as she worked to support women's and children's projects throughout the Lower Mainland just because that is what you do in being part of a community. The only part of her stronger than her commitment to help was her desire to avoid any recognition what so ever. Camp Goodtimes was her dearest endeavour, a camp for kids battling cancer as her son had, a camp where kids could simply be kids. True to form she brought together her friends and family to build the camp. In over twenty years it has grown from a few weeks and a few kids, Camp Goodtimes has grown to host over 200 kids throughout the summer. She was an inspiration in the creation of Canuck Place and active throughout her local community on Bowen Island. She will be dearly missed by her many grandchildren who brought her such joy everyday. We are grateful for the loving care and compassion of our Mum's dear angel, Ender. Her family, our father Gordon, children, Donald (wife Sandra, predeceased), Nancy Cox (husband Jim), David (wife Kirsten), Cindy MacLeod (husband Marshall) and Scott (predeceased) are comforted by her brother, Dr. Donald K. Merkeley and all of those who shared her life - she is predeceased by brothers Dr. Garth Merkeley and Dr. Norman Merkeley. We graciously thank you all for your well wishes and ask that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lois Youngson Camp Goodtimes Fund c/o Vancity Community Foundation, Ste 510 815 W.
