BENJAMIN H. BESEL January 26, 1923 October 8, 2007 With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather after a courageous battle with COPD. He is survived by his wife Anna; children, Allan (Leanne), Kerry, Brycee (Shawn), Shelley (Anthony); grandchildren, Calvin (Charlene), Stuart (Connie), Nicole (Clayton), Allison, Bradley, Malindi, Jillian, Alexander, Christopher, Hailey and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Aaron; brothers, Hilmer and Daniel (Shiela); sisters, Lorine and Gilda and nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by son Warren; brother Benni Herman; father Waldemar; mother Bertha (Kneller) and step-mother Wanda; sister-in-law Lily. Ben enlisted in the Canadian Army in June 1941 and served with the 10th Armoured Regiment The Fort Garry Horse , saw action in Sicily, Italy, ending up in Holland at war's end. After marrying Anna, he worked on Hydro dam projects along the Winnipeg River as a high rigger and cable splicer; also as a heavy duty mechanic on the Trans-Canada pipeline before deciding to strike out on his own. Very independent and resourceful, he established a successful business at Jct. Hwys #44 and 11 known as Benny's Service in 1958, which served the surrounding area until 1992. In spite of a limited education, he could build and fix anything and was always willing to sit down and pass on to anyone, knowledge he had gleaned over the years. His favourite line was Come, I'll draw you a picture and you couldn't leave till you got it. Ben enjoyed reading, always kept up with local and world events and positively enjoyed the political and religious discussions that took place on numerous occasions. Special thanks to Carol and all who looked after Ben at home and at the hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Avenue E., Beausejour with Rev. William Lehman officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 0C8 or to a charity of one's choice. Sleep easy, dear Benjamin. The long battle is over.
