VICTOR J. SCHROEDER It is with sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved father, Victor Schroeder, on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 93 years. Victor was born on January 20, 1914 in Wesseloje, South Russia to Jacob and Marie Schroeder. Surviving the aftermath of the Russian revolution, the family emigrated to Canada in 1924, settling in the Niverville area. Here he owned and operated Schroeder Transfer for many years. After the family moved to Winnipeg in 1957 he became a master machinist working in turn at Auto Supply, Frank Motors and Manitoba Bearing until his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife Melita, in 1986, his youngest daughter Margarete, his daughter-in-law Edith Schroeder and his son-in-law William Orchard. He leaves to mourn his children, Helene and husband David Riesen, Henry Schroeder and Leonore Orchard; his grandchildren, Ingrid Riesen, Eleanor Riesen, Kathy and Uwe Baumann, Karl and Nancy Schroeder, Lara and Gordon MacGregor and Karen and Kevin Slippert; and his great-grandchildren, Julia, Marie, David, Colin, Aria, Eden, and Katerina. He is also survived by his much loved sister Helene Neustaedter, his sisters-in-law, Helene (Erhard) Fleige and Anne Schroeder and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would particularly like to thank the staff at Bethania, the staff at Autumn House, and his good friend, Leonard Sawatzky, for the care and concern accorded him over the years. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Victor Schroeder may be made either to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg, R2K 3S7 or to Seniors Home Help Inc., Autumn House, 102-790 Wellington Avenue, Winnipeg, R3E 3K9. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Notre Dame and Alverstone, with Reverend Franz Wiebe officiating. Interment at Brookside Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 17 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg and at the church prior to the service.
