EDNA KOSINSKY Peacefully, on Saturday, October 13, 2007 Edna Kosinsky died at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 88 years. Remaining to forever cherish Edna's memory are her children, Fran (Don) Beley, John (Denise) Kosinsky, Shirley (Joe) Proctor, Leslie Kosinsky; grandsons, Michael (Carrie) Beley and Mitchell Beley; great-granddaughter Lauren Beley; sister Stella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her feline friends, Milo and Toby. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1983; daughter Linda; and her sisters, Lena, Caroline, Jennie and Helen. Edna was born on June 17, 1919 in Merrydale, Manitoba. She grew up on a farm and on July 18, 1936 married her childhood friend, Frank Kosinsky. They spent the first few years living in various northern communities and moved to Winnipeg in 1939. She worked for a time at The Grain Exchange Building and the Royal Alexandria Hotel, but most of her life was dedicated to caring for her family and helping her husband run his home-based business, J F Refrigeration. A wonderful cook and baker, Edna often opened her home to friends of her children who needed a place to stay or a good meal. She had a soft spot for animals of all kinds and would often be found with a cat or two curled up on her lap or on her bed. More recently she always enjoyed her daily visit with the budgies on her ward at Misericordia Place. Her later years were plagued by numerous health problems but she faced each challenge bravely and her tenacity and determination remained with her until the end. On October 19, a celebration of Edna's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Misericordia Place, 44 Furby Street. We wish to thank the staff of Misericordia Place, Apple Tree Lane, for their compassionate care over the past 14 months. Her final week was spent at the Victoria Hospital; our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bosco and the ER staff; Dr. Thorlakson and the 5th floor staff; Dr. Khan and his surgical team; and the angels of ICU. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna's memory to Quagga Stray Cat Rescue, Box 552, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2J3 or a charity of your choice. We were privileged to have her as our mother and although we will miss her tremendously, we take comfort in a lifetime of wonderful memories.
