HELEN SCHROEDER (nee STEER) Helen completed her earthly journey on October 15, 2007, at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. She was born November 13, 1926 at Damascus, Ohio, USA. She is survived by husband, Dr. George Schroeder, Steinbach, sister Dorothy Cobbs (Kenneth), Sebring, Ohio, brother Don (Sandy), St. Petersburg, Florida, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by parents Ralph and Nellie Steer, and sister Marjorie Dunn (Rev. Roy), Cupertino, California. Helen and George were missionaries in Nigeria for 30 years, on staff at Ilorin Bible College. Her ministries/instruction revolved around teaching English, music, and choirs and coordinating a regional Christian film library. In spite of significant health issues, she remained active until their retirement to USA and Canada (Steinbach) in 1994. She excelled at accompanying small or large choirs, quartets, etc., and she accompanied George whenever he sang at services/conferences. A viewing will be held Friday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 20, 11:00 a.m. at Mennonite Brethren Church, Lumber and Second Street, Steinbach, MB, with Pastor Abe Klassen officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. At Helen's request, flowers are graciously declined.
