Dorothy leaves to mourn her two daughters, Phyllis Elliott (Mel) and Gail Jones, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren, her sister Karen Werestiuk, sister-in-law Kay Jones, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Indridi and Jona Bjorg Arnason, her husband Harry, son Harry, brothers, Athalgeir and Sigurjon Alli, and sisters, Helga, Sigurbjorg and Helga Sigurbjorg, sons-in-law, George Robertson and Al Perepeluk, brothers-in-law, Peter Werestiuk, Dan Demidash and Findlay Cochrane, Cameron, Pennel and Jack Jones and sister-in-law Moira Jones. Dorothy was born in Husavick, Iceland and came to Canada in 1914. The family resided in Gimli where she took her schooling. They moved to Hecla for several years and later returned to Gimli. She worked at Betel and at the O.B.U. (One Big Union) training camp which is now New Horizons and there she met her husband Harry. They were married in 1930 and resided in Transcona. Dorothy was a wonderful seamstress and made all her children's clothes and also sewed for others during the thirties. She was an accomplished pianist and played the piano for the LOBA meetings. During the war years when Harry was overseas the family returned to Gimli where she worked in the fishery, at the jewelry store and seamed on nets. In 1945 they returned to Transcona and Dorothy went to work for Hudson's Bay for the next 27 years. After retirement Dot and Harry spent their summers at their cottage Sailor's Rest in Gimli. Dorothy lived with unconditional love and kindness in her heart. She had great determination and inner strength and was always ready to support and encourage her family and her friends in all they did. She will be deeply missed by her family. We wish her happy days in her new home and thank the staff at Betel for their loving care in her last three years, also doctors Montoedi and Chapnick. Special thanks to Alexis and staff at adult day care and Gerry and Olga for the transportation. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Friday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Jaycen Snider officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at a private service at the Transcona cemetery. If friends so wish, donations may be made to a charity of their choice in Dorothy's name.
